Gavin McKenna Breaks Penn State Record with Eight Points Against Ohio State

Gavin McKenna, a rising star at Penn State University, achieved a remarkable feat in a recent match against Ohio State. He scored one goal and provided seven assists, surpassing the previous single-game point record of five points set by the university. His incredible performance came in just two periods, where he recorded six points, helping the team to equal a program record with 11 goals in a single game.
Historic Performance Against Ohio State
McKenna’s eight-point game not only showcased his talent but also highlighted his resurgence in the collegiate hockey scene after a challenging start to his season. He now has a total of 41 points this season, consisting of 12 goals and 29 assists over 27 games. Since the mid-season break, he has recorded eight goals and 15 assists in just 11 games.
Background and Previous Achievements
At only 18 years old, McKenna is one of the top prospects for the upcoming NHL draft. Before joining Penn State, he was a standout with the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL, where he achieved a staggering 129 points in 56 games last season, including 41 goals and 88 assists. His prior season also saw him accumulating 97 points as a 16-year-old.
In addition to his successful college career, McKenna represented Team Canada in the World Juniors tournament, where he scored four goals and contributed 10 assists across seven games.

Despite his on-ice success, McKenna is currently facing a misdemeanor simple assault charge. The incident is reported to have occurred on January 31 in State College, Pennsylvania. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11 in Centre County.
