Over 1,100 Flights Delayed at DIA Due to Colorado’s High Winds

Severe winds impacted travel at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Tuesday, causing significant disruptions. More than 1,100 flights were delayed or canceled due to these high winds affecting Colorado’s Front Range and Eastern Plains.

Flight Delays and Cancellations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground delay at DIA early Tuesday. This restriction lasted until 8 p.m. and resulted in an average flight delay of two hours. By the end of the day, the situation had led to:

  • 1,120 flights delayed
  • 96 flights canceled

  • Eight other airlines with delays ranging from one to seven flights

In addition to the extensive delays, several cancellations were noted. SkyWest canceled 64 flights, followed by Southwest with 25 cancellations, and United Airlines canceling seven flights.
