REM Service Restored After Garbage Truck Collides with Viaduct

Service on the REM commuter train line faced disruption Friday morning after a garbage truck collided with a viaduct. The incident occurred near the Bois-Franc station, affecting operations between Sunnybrooke and Côte-de-Liesse stations.
Incident Details and Response
The collision took place around 3:30 a.m. when the truck struck protective beams on the viaduct located on Marcel-Laurin Boulevard, north of Henri-Bourassa. Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils confirmed the details of the incident.
Impact on Train Services
As of 7 a.m., REM services were gradually resuming across the network after a period of suspension. During the downtime, shuttle buses were deployed to assist affected commuters.
Road Closures and Safety Assessments
- Marcel-Laurin Boulevard was closed to traffic immediately following the collision.
- The road reopened around 6 a.m.
In similar past incidents, such as a truck collision with the same viaduct in November, minor damage occurred, leading to temporary service interruptions as engineers conducted structural safety assessments.
Train services on the REM line are critical for many commuters in Montreal, and ensuring their safety and reliability is paramount following such events.
