San Jose Sharks Waive Jeff Skinner to Terminate Contract

The San Jose Sharks have placed veteran winger Jeff Skinner on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract. If Skinner clears waivers, he will officially become an unrestricted free agent the following day.

Jeff Skinner’s Performance with the Sharks

The 33-year-old forward has had a challenging season with the Sharks. He has scored six goals and garnered 13 points in 32 games so far. His last appearance was on January 11, before he was made a healthy scratch prior to the Olympic break.

Contract Details

Skinner joined the Sharks on a one-year deal worth $3 million. This contract, signed in July, followed a similar arrangement with the Edmonton Oilers for the previous season. In the 2024-25 season, he achieved 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games with Edmonton, also contributing one goal and two points during their playoff run to the Stanley Cup Final.

Career Milestones

Drafted seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010, Skinner has had a notable career. Over 1,110 career games, he has amassed 379 goals and 712 points. His impressive record includes five seasons with over 30 goals, achieving a personal best of 40 goals with the Buffalo Sabres during the 2018-19 season.

  • Calder Trophy winner in 2010-11 for Rookie of the Year.
  • Scored 31 goals and 63 points in the rookie season.
  • Last reached the 30-goal mark in the 2022-23 season with Buffalo.

As Skinner’s time with the Sharks comes to an end, his future in the NHL remains uncertain. His experience and goal-scoring ability may attract interest from other teams in need of a seasoned forward.
