Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps Resume Olympic Ice Training After Injury

Canadian figure skaters Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps have returned to the ice for Olympic training. After a delayed arrival in Milano Cortina, the 2024 World Champions completed their first training session on Friday, February 13, 2026. The duo was forced to withdraw from the team event due to Stellato-Dudek’s injury sustained during practice in Montreal.

Stellato-Dudek Overcomes Medical Challenges

At 42 years old, Stellato-Dudek is set to become the oldest female figure skater to compete in the Olympics in nearly a century. She expressed her gratitude towards her medical team and supporters. “I am extremely impressed with my recovery,” she stated. “The overwhelming support from fans around the world, including prayers and well-wishes, has been uplifting.”

A Journey of Resilience

  • Stellato-Dudek is an Olympic rookie after returning to competition following a 16-year hiatus.
  • She partnered with Deschamps in 2019, both athletes overcoming significant challenges to achieve their Olympic dreams.
  • Earlier in her career, Stellato-Dudek was a prominent singles skater, earning a podium finish at the ISU Junior World Championships in 2000.

Deschamps shared his thoughts on the challenges faced during the last week. “It was hard to see our dreams slip away. But I believed in Deanna and trained hard,” he said. The couple decided to keep details about the incident private, emphasizing the need for time to process the events leading up to their Olympic appearance.

Adjustments Made for Competition

Due to Stellato-Dudek’s injury, the couple has removed the backflip element from their short program. They opted for safety, focusing on elements that pose less risk.

Excitement for the Olympic Experience

As first-time Olympians, Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps are soaking in the atmosphere in Milan. Stellato-Dudek recalled the emotional moment they first saw the Olympic rings, leading her to tear up. “When I started this journey in 2016, no one expected me to reach the Olympics,” she remarked. “I am not one to give up without a fight.”

They are set to perform their short program on Sunday alongside fellow Canadian skaters Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, with the free program scheduled for Monday.
