NFL Legend Bobby Wagner to Speak at 2026 Commencement, Award Recipients Revealed

Utah State University announced that NFL legend Bobby Wagner will serve as the keynote speaker for its 2026 commencement ceremony. The event, scheduled for April 29, 2026, promises to be memorable as it also honors three distinguished individuals with honorary degrees.

Bobby Wagner: A Football Icon

Bobby Wagner, renowned for his impressive football career, is a graduate of Utah State University (USU). He played as a linebacker for USU from 2008 to 2011, amassing a remarkable 446 career tackles, which ties him for the school’s all-time record. Wagner’s collegiate playing prowess helped lead the Aggies to their first bowl game appearance in 14 years during his senior season.

Wagner’s professional journey began when he was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He played a vital role in the team’s victory at Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Over his 14-year NFL career, Wagner has received numerous accolades, including multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. He has also been recognized off the field for his extensive community service and philanthropy, receiving nominations for the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award four times.

Honorary Degree Recipients

The 2026 commencement ceremony will honor three exceptional individuals:

  • Joyce Albrecht: A 45-year veteran in higher education, Joyce has significantly impacted USU, particularly in arts education funding.
  • Stan Albrecht: Former president of USU, Stan dedicated 25 years to various leadership roles, enhancing educational opportunities statewide.
  • Ara Serjoie: An alumnus and international student, Ara has spent three decades in higher education and community engagement.

The Ceremony Schedule

The USU 139th commencement will span three days, starting with the main event on April 29, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. The academic procession will move from the University Quad to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. College convocations and hooding ceremonies will follow on April 30 and May 1.

For the safety of attendees, a clear-bag policy will be in effect, allowing bags up to 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches, along with small clutch purses and medically necessary bags.

Statewide Ceremonies

In addition to the main event in Logan, statewide campuses of USU will hold their own commencement ceremonies from April 16 to April 25, 2026. These ceremonies will also be viewable live via AggieCast, except for the Moab campus.

The upcoming commencement promises to be a highlight in the academic calendar, celebrating the university’s achievements and honoring its remarkable alumni.
