BC Freshwater Fishing Licences Transition to New Online WILD System

British Columbia is set to modernize its freshwater fishing licensing system for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Anglers will transition to the new WILD (Wildlife Information and Licensing Data) system, allowing them to manage both fishing and hunting licenses in one online platform.

Key Changes to Freshwater Fishing Licences

Beginning next Monday, anglers can register for a free Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID). This ID is essential for purchasing a fishing licence through the WILD system. The integration aims to streamline the licensing process, reducing the number of transactions necessary to obtain provincial licenses.

Community Feedback and Benefits

The provincial government’s decision responds to requests from the angling community for a more unified approach to licensing. “Modernizing the licensing system ensures funding for the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. This supports vital programs in conservation and education,” a spokesperson noted.

Registration and Access

  • New anglers must register for an FWID in WILD.
  • Existing angler numbers will be retired after the current licensing year.
  • A Basic BCeID can be used to access the WILD system.
  • Canadian residents may also utilize their BC Services Card for streamlined registration.

For those who prefer in-person assistance, registration for the FWID and licensing will be available at FrontCounter BC, Service BC, or select vendor locations.

Changes in Licensing Requirements

Starting April 1, anglers will no longer need to hold physical or digital copies of most fishing licences. An FWID and valid identification will serve as proof for basic angling, classified waters, and white sturgeon conservation licences. However, for Conservation Surcharge Stamps, a paper copy remains mandatory to record catch details.

Pre-Sales Details

Pre-sales for the 2026-27 fishing licence year will begin in early March through the WILD system, with the official start date set for April 1.

These updates promise to enhance the fishing experience in British Columbia by making the process more efficient and user-friendly for all anglers.
