Trotz’s Legacy in Nashville
Barry Trotz holds a significant place in Nashville hockey history. He was appointed as the first head coach of the Predators a year prior to the team’s debut in 1998 and remained in that role until April 2014. Under his leadership, the team earned respect and recognition in what was considered a non-traditional hockey market.
- In 2023, Trotz was appointed the second general manager in Predators history, replacing David Poile.
- He previously coached the Washington Capitals, leading them to a Stanley Cup victory in 2018.
Owner’s Comments and Next Steps
Majority owner Bill Haslam was informed by Trotz in December about his intention to retire when his contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 season. Haslam stated that they decided to initiate the search for a new general manager now, rather than delaying the process.
He expressed a desire to have a new general manager in place by the NHL Draft in late June. Haslam reassured fans that there was no disagreement between himself and Trotz that might have influenced this decision.
