Fender Crafts Guitars From Burned Altadena Trees to Support Rebuilding Efforts

Emerging from the devastation of the Eaton Fire, guitar manufacturer Fender is crafting unique electric guitars from fire-damaged trees in Altadena. This initiative reflects both artistic expression and community support, particularly for those affected by the destructive blaze.

Creating Guitars from Burned Altadena Trees

Fender has partnered with Angel City Lumber to salvage and repurpose trees impacted by the fire. Together, they are turning these damaged trees into beautiful instruments with a purpose. The wood that would have otherwise been discarded is instead transformed into a valuable product.

Altadena Telecaster: The First Guitar

The flagship instrument of this project is the Altadena Telecaster. Its body is crafted from Deodar cedar, sourced from a tree damaged in the fire. Finished in a delicate satin urethane, the wood’s natural intricacies, including ripples and knots, are prominently displayed.

  • Body Material: Fire-damaged Deodar cedar
  • Neck: AAA figured maple, inspired by 1950s designs
  • Pickguard: Black single-ply
  • Engraving: Features “We Are All Altadena” artwork by Eric Junker

Supporting Local Rebuilding Efforts

Justin Norvell, President of Americas at Fender, emphasized the project’s role in community healing. He stated that music fosters connection and believes this initiative embodies that spirit while supporting long-term recovery in Los Angeles.

The Altadena Telecaster has made its public debut, having been played live by Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes at the “A Concert for Altadena.” This benefit concert aimed to assist families, businesses, and first responders recovering from the fire.
