Canucks Celebrate Year of the Horse January 29th
The Vancouver Canucks are gearing up for an exciting celebration of Lunar New Year, which falls on January 29th. This year’s event will coincide with their game against the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 PM. The celebration pays tribute to the traditions and values of East Asian communities while marking the Year of the Horse.
Why the Lunar New Year Matters
“Lunar New Year is about tradition, family, and community,” said Michael Doyle, President of Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “We invite everyone to come together for a vibrant evening filled with culture.” The Year of the Horse symbolizes passion, energy, and ambition.
Unique Canucks Logo for the Celebration
This year’s Lunar New Year logo, designed by Carolyn Wong, a first-generation Chinese-Canadian artist, captures the essence of the Fire Horse. The design showcases a horse in motion, symbolizing momentum and ambition.

The celebratory festivities will include various activities for fans to enjoy before and during the game.
Party on the Plaza
The fun begins at 5:00 PM outside the arena. Attendees can take photos with special Lunar New Year light-up letters and enjoy live music from Son of James.
Entertainment During the Game
Special guests for the evening include:
- Nhi Do, a Vietnamese-Canadian actor as the guest host
- Celine Wang performing national anthems
- Intermission shows featuring:
- KyungHee Taekwondo
- Vancity Lion Dance
- Modern guzheng artist Michelle Kwan
- Sichuan Opera’s hotpot face changing performance
Cultural and Community Engagement
A market will be set up along the concourse between Sections 101-103 featuring local vendors. Attendees can sample Hon’s longevity noodles and learn more about their rich culinary history.

- Vancouver Chinatown Foundation: Dedicated to revitalizing Chinatown and supporting local residents.
