Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles Eliminated from Europa League Following Utrecht

Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles have been eliminated from the Europa League group stage, with FC Utrecht already out prior to the final matchday. With PSV and Ajax failing to progress in the Champions League, AZ is now the only Dutch team remaining in European competition.

Feyenoord’s Disappointing Exit

Feyenoord faced Real Betis in Sevilla, needing a win to advance. They ultimately lost 2-1, as they fell behind 2-0 before halftime. Former Ajax player Antony scored the opening goal and assisted the second goal for Betis.

In the second half, Casper Tengstedt scored for Feyenoord, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. The team concluded the group stage ranked 30th overall. Additionally, Feyenoord’s Shaqueel van Persie suffered a serious injury late in the match, raising concerns about his fitness.

Go Ahead Eagles’ Stalemate

At home, Go Ahead Eagles played Sporting Braga to a goalless draw. This marked the club’s first participation in a European tournament since 1965. They finished the group stage as the highest-ranked Dutch team, securing the 29th position overall.

FC Utrecht’s Final Match

FC Utrecht, having already been eliminated, faced Celtic away but lost 4-2. They ended the group stage in a disappointing 34th place, with just one point to their name.

European Tournament Standings

  • Feyenoord: 30th place
  • Go Ahead Eagles: 29th place
  • FC Utrecht: 34th place

Going forward, AZ will represent the Netherlands in the knockout phase of the Conference League starting in February, as the nation now focuses on their remaining European hopeful.
