CAF Disciplinary Board Sanctions Senegalese and Moroccan Football Federations

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has sanctioned both the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations due to incidents that transpired during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Final held in Morocco in 2025. The infractions violated the CAF Disciplinary Code, prompting a series of penalties for players, coaches, and the federations themselves.
Sanctions Against the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football
- The Head Coach of the Senegalese National Team, Mr. Pape Bouna Thiaw, has received a five-match suspension for unsporting conduct.
- Mr. Thiaw was also fined USD 100,000 for bringing the game into disrepute.
- Player Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye faces a two-match suspension for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.
- Player Ismaila Sarr is also suspended for two matches for similar reasons.
- The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football has been fined a total of USD 615,000, stemming from various violations, including:
- USD 300,000 for improper conduct by supporters.
- USD 300,000 for unsporting behaviour from players and staff.
- USD 15,000 for the misconduct of players receiving cautions.
Sanctions Against the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football
- The Moroccan National Team player, Mr. Achraf Hakimi, is suspended for two matches, with one match suspended for a year.
- Player Ismaël Saibari has a three-match suspension and is fined USD 100,000.
- The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football is fined USD 315,000 in total, which includes:
- USD 200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of ball boys.
- USD 100,000 for improper conduct by players and technical staff who invaded the VAR area.
- USD 15,000 for the use of lasers by supporters.
Protest Rejected
The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football had lodged a protest against the Sénégalese federation, alleging violations of specific CAF regulations during the Africa Cup of Nations Final. However, the CAF Disciplinary Board has rejected this protest entirely.
