Sirens’ Forward Girard’s Suspension Cut to Three Games

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has revised the suspension of New York Sirens forward Taylor Girard. Initially, Girard faced a four-game suspension for participating in a fight during a game against the Montreal Victoire on January 19. This incident occurred at the Washington Capitals’ arena.
Taylor Girard’s Suspension Details
On January 19, Girard left the bench to engage in a skirmish, leading to an automatic suspension under league rules. The PWHL stated that the first player leaving the bench during an altercation incurs a mandatory four-game suspension. However, following an appeal from the PWHL Players Association, the suspension was reviewed.
Review and Appeal Process
Jayna Hefford, who serves as the executive vice president of hockey operations, conducted the review. She examined video footage and submissions from the players association before making her decision. Ultimately, Hefford deemed a reduction to three games to be appropriate.
Return to Play
As a result of the suspension adjustment, Girard is now eligible to return to the ice on February 26. This marks her comeback following the Olympic break, and she will rejoin her team against Montreal.
