Istanbul: Police Crack Down on Prostitution, Gambling; 4 Suspects Detained

In a significant operation, Istanbul police targeted illegal activities in massage parlors and gambling establishments across the city. The crackdown aimed to combat prostitution and illegal gambling, resulting in numerous arrests and substantial fines.
Istanbul Police Operation Against Prostitution and Gambling
On January 23, police launched a widespread inspection campaign covering various massage parlors and gambling venues. A total of 20 massage businesses were examined, revealing serious violations.
Key Details of the Operation
- 11 establishments were subject to legal and administrative actions.
- Two suspects were prosecuted for facilitating prostitution.
- Seven women, identified as victims of human trafficking, were rescued.
- 32 individuals were found working without insurance, leading to administrative charges.
Gambling Inspections
The simultaneous gambling inspections scrutinized 368 locations. Five thousand two hundred and fifteen background checks were conducted on individuals present. The outcomes included:
- Four suspects were arrested for various offenses.
- 178 individuals received fines totaling 2,065,512 lira.
- 35 individuals faced legal actions linked to providing opportunities for gambling.
Seizures During the Crackdown
The police seizure included:
- 90,120 lira in cash
- 100 US dollars
- Three unlicensed firearms
- 293 ammunition rounds
- Illegal drugs
- A variety of gambling materials
