Hyman Hits Stride, Boosting Oilers’ Success

Zach Hyman, the Edmonton Oilers winger, has made a significant impact on the team during the 2025-26 NHL season. After missing the first 19 games due to wrist surgery, Hyman returned to the ice on December 1. Since his comeback, he has scored 19 goals and accumulated 31 points, placing him fifth on the team’s scoring chart.
Hyman’s Journey Back to the Ice
Hyman’s return followed a lengthy recovery from an injury sustained during the previous spring’s Western Conference finals. Initially, he struggled to find his rhythm, but he soon began to flourish. In the last ten games before facing the New Jersey Devils, he netted eight goals.
Adapting After Injury
- Months of Recovery: Hyman spent six months rehabilitating his wrist.
- Athletic Preparation: He noted the opportunity to train extensively during his recovery.
- Gradual Return: He transitioned from solo skating to playing in games with the team.
“I’m proud of my return,” said Hyman after a recent morning skate. “Rehabilitation is challenging, but I’ve enjoyed the process of getting back to my game.” His adjustment involved playing more physically while being cautious about his hand and wrist movements.
The Oilers’ Improved Performance
Since Hyman’s re-entry into the lineup, the Oilers have shown considerable improvement. Before his return, the team’s record stood at 11-10-5. During his subsequent 20 games, in which he scored 17 goals, the team went 12-6-2.
Synergy with Connor McDavid
After reuniting with superstar centerman Connor McDavid, Hyman quickly regained their previous successful partnership. Both players seem to have an intuitive understanding on the ice, allowing them to exploit defensive weaknesses effectively.
“You focus on playing your game and getting the puck to your best player,” Hyman stated. “It’s about being in the right position and letting him work his magic.”
