Three French Departments on Orange Alert: Rain Forecast in Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales

A significant weather phenomenon, known as depression Ingrid, continues to impact parts of France. This weekend, three departments in Brittany remain on orange alert due to anticipated heavy rainfall. The affected areas are Finistère, Morbihan, and Ille-et-Vilaine, where concerns over flooding and rising water levels persist.
Rainfall Forecast in Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales
According to Météo-France, substantial rainfall is expected in these regions. Forecasts predict an additional 15 to 25 mm of rain by Saturday afternoon, causing authorities to maintain the orange alert for flooding until 4 PM.
Locations Under Surveillance
- Finistère
- Morbihan
- Ille-et-Vilaine
Specific waterways, including the Odet, Laïta, Blavet, and Oust, are under close monitoring due to rising water levels. The situation is aggravated by already saturated soil conditions.
Conditions in Southern France
The southeast of France, including the Pyrénées-Orientales and Aude, is currently under yellow alert for various weather conditions, including thunderstorms and potential snowfall. Rainfall is expected to range from 10 to 20 mm, with isolated areas experiencing up to 40 mm.
Temperature and Weather Changes
Temperatures in these departments are projected to remain below 8 degrees Celsius. The snow-rain threshold is expected to lower to around 600-700 meters in the eastern Pyrénées and the southern Massif Central, as well as in the Alps.
Looking Ahead: Weather Outlook
While the tramontane winds may provide a brief respite by helping to clear cloud cover, a new weather system is predicted to move in from the Atlantic. This will bring another wave of rainfall and strong winds to the western coast on Sunday.
Although Sunday may offer a temporary break from the rain, further precipitation is likely to return next week, indicating a continued period of unsettled weather.
