Inter Miami Secures $15M Berterame Transfer After Failed Bouanga Bid Sources Say

Inter Miami has made headlines with a significant move to strengthen its roster. The club has reached an agreement to acquire forward Germán Berterame from CF Monterrey for a proposed $15 million transfer fee. This deal would mark one of the top ten most expensive transfers in Major League Soccer (MLS) history.
Miami’s Pursuit of Top Talent
Before securing Berterame, Miami explored several potential targets. Initially, the club made a bold attempt to sign LAFC star Denis Bouanga with an offer of approximately $13 million. However, LAFC quickly rejected this bid. Bouanga, who has expressed a desire for a new contract, is under deal until 2027, with an option for 2028.
Denis Bouanga’s Achievements
- Scored over 20 regular-season goals in the last three seasons.
- Joined LAFC in 2022, contributing to their Supporters’ Shield win.
- A key player in LAFC’s MLS Cup victory.
- Third in MLS MVP voting and winner of the 2023 MLS Golden Boot.
- Ranked as the league’s 19th highest-paid player with guaranteed compensation of $3.7 million.
Despite Miami’s interest in Bouanga, the club has now turned its focus to Berterame. The 27-year-old Argentine forward has made a name for himself in Liga MX. Since his arrival in Monterrey in 2022, he has netted 68 goals and provided 15 assists. His scoring prowess was evident last season, with 27 goals across all competitions, including three during the FIFA Club World Cup.
Inter Miami’s Busy Winter
Miami’s activity this winter reflects a strategic shift as the club transitions from the Messi era, known as Messi 1.0, to Messi 2.0. With key players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba retiring, Miami opened two Designated Player (DP) spots. Additionally, the club solidified Rodrigo De Paul’s loan to a permanent move for approximately $17 million, making it one of the highest fees in MLS history.
- Signed Dayne St. Clair, the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
- Completed a permanent transfer for winger Tadeo Allende from Celta Vigo.
- Acquired Brazilian center-back Micael on loan from Palmeiras.
- Traded for midfielder David Ayala from the Portland Timbers.
- Added former Tottenham left back Sergio Reguilon and Argentine right back Facundo Mura on free transfers.
As Miami prepares to finalize the Berterame transfer, fans eagerly anticipate the impact he will have as the club continues to enhance its roster.
