Wolves Bid for Mexican Player, Messi Blocks Transfer Move

In a twist of events in the transfer market, Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) have pursued two key players recently. Their focus included Hwang Hee-chan and Germán Berterame, aiming to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the January transfer window.
Wolves Target Hwang Hee-chan
Earlier this month, Feyenoord expressed interest in Wolves’ forward Hwang Hee-chan. The Dutch club seeks to bolster their attack due to injuries affecting several of their players. Hwang’s versatility as both a forward and winger makes him an appealing target.
Despite Feyenoord’s interest, no formal offers have been made to secure his transfer from Molineux.
Germán Berterame’s Decision
Wolves have shifted their attention to Germán Berterame from CF Monterrey. Reports from Mexico’s Plano Deportivo confirm that Wolves have made a formal offer for the striker. However, the specifics of this offer remain unclear, including whom it was directed to.
In a surprising turn, Berterame has rejected the opportunity to join Wolves. Instead, he has opted to sign with Inter Miami CF. The transfer to Inter Miami was significantly influenced by the club’s star player, Lionel Messi.
Messi’s Influence
According to reports, Messi played a crucial role in Berterame’s decision. The Argentine World Cup winner personally reached out to him, which was decisive in swaying the player’s preference towards joining the Major League Soccer side.
Inter Miami finalized the deal with Monterrey for around $15 million (€12.8 million). The financial breakdown reveals that Monterrey will retain 70% of this fee, while the remaining 30% will be distributed among Berterame’s former clubs: Atlético Madrid, Atlético San Luis, and San Lorenzo.
Wolves’ Next Steps
With Berterame now off the table, Wolves must explore alternative options as they seek to strengthen their squad this winter. The need for a new forward remains paramount as they navigate the transfer landscape.
