Community Foundation Expands Outreach Across the County

The Ottawa Valley Community Foundation, established in the summer of 2008, has significantly expanded its outreach beyond Pembroke and Petawawa. This shift became evident during a recent visit on January 12th, when board member Alastair Baird addressed the Arnprior Town Council.
Community Foundation’s Role and Impact
The Ottawa Valley Community Foundation serves as a funding vehicle rather than conducting fundraising independently. Its primary mission is to meet community needs through collaboration with service clubs, organizations, and individual donors. The foundation facilitates various forms of giving, including one-time donations and annual endowments.
Expanding Awareness in Eastern Valley
Baird’s appearance at the Arnprior Council aimed to raise awareness about the foundation’s initiatives. He emphasized that the organization works to connect donors with local projects, describing their efforts as tying giving up with a bow.
Success Stories and Initiatives
One notable initiative is the Sport-for-All fund, which originated from the Ontario Winter Games held locally in 2023. This fund exemplifies how the foundation supports specific causes, fostering community involvement and enhancing recreational opportunities.
Growth and Future Plans
The Ottawa Valley Community Foundation is witnessing growth in both its assets and outreach efforts. Baird mentioned that the foundation’s annual giving cycle kicks off with a general meeting in winter, further indicating its commitment to engage with the community.
