Icy Roads Cause Multiple Wrecks Across Triangle Area

Early Monday morning, the Triangle area experienced numerous vehicle accidents. Icy roads from previous cold weather contributed to hazardous driving conditions. As a result, officials declared a WRAL Weather Alert Day until 10 a.m.
Icy Roads Lead to Multiple Wrecks
The inclement weather over the weekend left behind patches of ice, which posed risks for commuters. Reports of accidents came from various locations, including:
- I-540 West in Wake County near mile marker 24, close to Raleigh and Knightdale Boulevard
- I-40 westbound at Hammond Road in Raleigh
- I-540 near Aviation Parkway in Cary
Impact in Rural Areas
In rural regions, particularly Person County, icy roads resulted in several vehicle crashes. However, Roxboro Police indicated there were no incidents reported within the city limits.
As temperatures hovered near freezing, motorists are urged to drive cautiously. Authorities recommend staying informed about road conditions and avoiding travel if possible until the ice clears.
