Construction Set to Begin on Shipston High School’s New Sports Facilities

Shipston High School in Warwickshire is set to enhance its sports offerings with the construction of new facilities. A substantial investment of £7 million will fund the development of a sports hall and changing facilities, managed by Ashe Construction. As the school expands to meet local demands, these new amenities will significantly benefit both students and the wider community.

Details of the New Sports Facilities

The new sports complex will include:

  • A multi-use hall featuring four badminton courts.
  • A full-size basketball court.
  • Indoor football capabilities.
  • Dedicated cricket nets.

In addition to the sporting facilities, the project will provide changing rooms designed for 41 pupils each, equipped with benches and lockers. Accessibility is a priority; therefore, ramped access and facilities for disabled users will be incorporated.

Sustainability Features

The new building will be sustainable, utilizing air source heat pumps and solar panels. High-level natural lighting, achieved through polycarbonate panels, will create a comfortable environment for various activities.

Project Timeline and Impact

This year-long project will engage approximately 40 operatives at peak times, following previous refurbishment phases completed by Ashe. Ben Wandless, Contract Manager at Ashe, emphasized the necessity of the new facilities due to growing student numbers. The existing gym is no longer adequate, and the new sports hall will accommodate essential physical education classes.

Community Benefits

Jordan Allsworth, Acting Head Teacher at Shipston High School, expressed enthusiasm for the new facilities. He noted that the modern sports hall would inspire students to engage in various physical activities, fostering teamwork and resilience. Importantly, these facilities will also be available for public use when school is not in session.

Ashe has a strong history of contributions to Shipston High School. Recent projects include:

  • 2017: A nine-classroom teaching block.
  • 2023: A new server room and IT suite.
