Atlético Madrid Keeps Marc Casadó on Mateu Alemany’s Priority List

Atlético Madrid remains attentive to the potential acquisition of Marc Casadó, a promising 22-year-old midfielder currently at FC Barcelona. This interest, highlighted by El-Balad, is led by Mateu Alemany, although no formal offer has been made yet. Both the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, are aware of Atlético’s interest.
Market Context for Atlético Madrid
As Atlético seeks to fill the gap left by Conor Gallagher’s recent transfer to Tottenham, they are exploring various options, including Casadó. Other targets include:
- João Gomes (Wolverhampton)
- Ederson (Atalanta)
These players present a higher profile and market value compared to Casadó. Despite this, the young midfielder shows a favorable inclination towards Atlético Madrid. He has expressed a desire to eventually play abroad but is considering a move to the Madrid club as the winter transfer market unfolds.
Casadó’s Current Situation
Last summer, Atlético manager Diego Simeone expressed interest in signing Casadó, but the player opted to remain at Barcelona, fulfilling what he called the dream of his life. Recently, however, his playing time has decreased significantly. Since returning from the Christmas break, Casadó has mostly been a substitute, missing out on opportunities in recent league and Supercopa matches.
This season, he has participated in 19 games, with 10 starts, totaling 871 minutes. In the previous season, he played 36 matches, racking up 2,447 minutes despite suffering a knee injury in March.
Interest from Premier League Clubs
In addition to Atlético Madrid, several Premier League clubs have also shown interest in Casadó. Manchester United has inquired about his availability, and Wolverhampton has monitored him since last summer. The ties between Mendes and both clubs keep Casadó on their radar as they look to strengthen their squads.
As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen how Casadó’s situation unfolds and whether he will remain at FC Barcelona or embark on a new chapter with Atlético Madrid or another club.
