Evan Weiss Appointed CEO of New Jersey Economic Development Authority

New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill has appointed Evan Weiss as the Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). Weiss brings years of experience in economic development from both the public and private sectors.

As CEO of NJEDA, Evan Weiss will collaborate with Governor-elect Sherrill, Lieutenant Governor-elect Caldwell, and industry partners. His focus will be on enhancing economic opportunities, increasing capital access for small and minority-owned businesses, and fostering innovation throughout New Jersey.

A Proven Track Record

  • Former President and CEO of Newark Alliance since 2021.
  • Led inclusive economic growth efforts, improving Newark’s economy.
  • Served as Senior Advisor for Finance and Major Projects to Governor Phil Murphy.

In his previous role, Weiss managed over $10 billion in federal stimulus funding. This included initiatives in renewable energy, transportation, and affordable housing, along with major projects like the Gateway Project. His leadership is expected to guide NJEDA in addressing the economic challenges facing New Jersey families.

Addressing Economic Challenges

Governor-elect Sherrill stated, “New Jersey is currently facing high housing costs and expensive utility bills. Evan understands how to unite government, industry, and communities to create opportunities and reduce living expenses.”

Lieutenant Governor-elect Dale Caldwell expressed confidence in Weiss’s leadership, emphasizing the upcoming World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary as opportunities for substantial investment in local communities.

Weiss’s Vision

His extensive background includes positions on the boards of New Jersey Transit, New Jersey City University, and New Jersey Community Capital. Weiss holds a degree from the University of Chicago and has been influential in reforming various economic development initiatives.
