Massachusetts Weather Alert: Intense Snowfall Expected on Sunday

Massachusetts is bracing for intense snowfall as a winter storm is set to hit the region on Sunday. Several areas have already recorded over 4 inches of snow, with ongoing precipitation reported through Saturday afternoon, particularly in Central and Western Massachusetts.
Winter Weather Advisories in Effect
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties. Hampden and Middlesex counties are under advisories until 5 p.m. Saturday, while Berkshire County has an advisory until 7 p.m.
Forecast for Sunday Snowfall
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is forecasted to resume on Sunday, starting around 8 a.m. This new wave of snow is expected to continue overnight until early Monday morning.
Projected Snow Accumulations
- Boston: 2 to 4 inches
- Worcester: 1 to 3 inches
- Cape Cod & the Islands: 1 to 3 inches
Snowfall will be heaviest during the afternoon, coinciding with the New England Patriots’ playoff game against the Houston Texans, scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. in Foxborough. The area could experience snow rates of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour during this time.
Temperature Expectations
Sunday temperatures are projected to reach a high of 38 degrees in Boston. Other areas will see slightly colder readings, such as 36 degrees in Worcester and Springfield, and 31 degrees in Pittsfield. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid to low 20s by evening.
Outlook for Monday
By 7 a.m. Monday, snowfall is expected to taper off. An arctic cold front will bring significant cold to the region on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Monday morning will bring sunny conditions but frigid temperatures, with Boston plummeting to 17 degrees and Worcester and Springfield potentially reaching as low as 13 degrees.
