Cowboys to Interview Eagles’ Christian Parker for DBs Coach Role

The Dallas Cowboys are set to interview Christian Parker, the current defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. This interview is scheduled for Wednesday and marks another step in the Cowboys’ search for a new defensive coordinator.
Cowboys’ Search for Defensive Coordinator
Christian Parker is the seventh candidate to be considered for the defensive coordinator role since the Cowboys parted ways with Matt Eberflus on January 6. His experience in Philadelphia, under the guidance of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, has been noteworthy.
Parker’s Track Record in Philadelphia
During Parker’s tenure, the Eagles have consistently ranked among the top-10 defenses against the pass. In 2024, the Eagles achieved the best passing defense in the NFL, allowing an average of just 174.2 yards per game. His work has been crucial in the development of rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
- Mitchell allowed only one touchdown when targeted, with a completion percentage of 42.4%—the lowest for corners with at least 500 coverage snaps.
- DeJean excelled as well, leading all slot corners with a completion percentage of 59.7%, alongside 15 passes defended and two interceptions.
Parker’s Coaching Journey
Christian Parker began his coaching career at a young age. After completing his playing career at Richmond, he started coaching defensive backs at Virginia State in 2013 when he was just 22 years old. His coaching journey included:
- 2015: Defensive backs coach at Norfolk State
- 2017: Defensive analyst at Notre Dame
- 2018: Defensive analyst at Texas A&M
- 2019: Defensive quality control coach with the Green Bay Packers
- 2021: Defensive backs coach for the Denver Broncos
During his time with the Broncos, Parker played a pivotal role in developing Patrick Surtain, who had an impressive rookie season with four interceptions. Surtain also earned Pro Bowl recognition in subsequent years and achieved first-team All-Pro status in 2022.
After a successful stint in Denver, Parker joined the Eagles’ staff for the 2023 season. His ascent within the coaching ranks highlights his expertise and ability to cultivate talent in defensive strategies.
As the Cowboys continue their search for a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker’s upcoming interview underscores his growing reputation in the NFL. For the latest developments on Dallas’ coaching prospects, stay updated with El-Balad.
