Severe Winter Storm Warning Issued for La Porte County, Indiana Wednesday and Thursday

La Porte County in Indiana is preparing for severe winter weather as a heavy snowstorm approaches this week. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that will be in effect from 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday until 1 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Winter Weather Alerts for the Region

Alongside La Porte County, Berrien County in Michigan is also under the same Winter Storm Warning. In addition, Porter County and Starke County in Indiana are experiencing Winter Weather Advisories. The advisories will be in effect from 8 a.m. ET Wednesday until 4 a.m. ET Thursday for Porter County and from 7 a.m. ET Wednesday until 1 p.m. ET Thursday for Starke County.

Snow Accumulation Forecast

As the storm progresses, La Porte County is expected to receive significant snowfall. Meteorologists project the following accumulation:

  • Porter County: 2 to 5 inches
  • La Porte County: 3 to 8 inches
  • Berrien County: Up to 12 inches

Snowfall will begin on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to continue through Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Conditions will gradually improve throughout Thursday as the storm moves out of the area.

In addition to heavy snow, temperatures across the region are predicted to drop steadily throughout the week. Residents are urged to prepare for challenging travel conditions due to the expected snow accumulation.
