Security Measures Ahead of Makar Sankranti
The second major bathing ritual of Magh Mela is set for Makar Sankranti on January 15. In preparation, authorities implemented extensive security measures to ensure a safe experience for the participants.

- Special units including 22 PAC, 6 RAF, NDRF, and ATS are present.

SP of Magh Mela, Neeraj Pandey, stated that the police and security forces are fully prepared. Surveillance efforts aim to provide a secure environment for the devotees. “Our aim is to ensure a safe ‘snaan’,” he emphasized.
Significant Participation Numbers
By 6 AM on January 14, the Magh Mela Officer, Rishi Raj, reported that approximately 950,000 devotees had already taken the holy dip. He noted, “People continue to arrive, and our entire police strength is on duty.” This influx is expected to increase with the upcoming Makar Sankranti celebrations.
Expectations for Makar Sankranti
The administration anticipates that Makar Sankranti will attract over 1 crore devotees for the holy dip. Divisional Commissioner Soumya Agarwal assured the public that necessary safety measures are in place for the event. “Heavy police presence will ensure the safety of all worshippers during the festival,” she stated.
Celebrations Beyond Prayagraj
Devotees in other locations, such as Ayodhya, also participated in holy dips, particularly in the River Saryu. Meanwhile, West Bengal’s Minister Sujit Bose highlighted the preparations for the Gangasagar Mela, emphasizing the scale of organization compared to similar events elsewhere in India.
