Teenager Killed, Another Injured in Birmingham West End Shooting

A tragic incident unfolded in Birmingham’s West End on Saturday night, resulting in the death of one teenager and severe injuries to another. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The victims were identified as 18-year-old Brandon McNeal Campbell, from Pleasant Grove, and a 17-year-old boy. Both attended Pleasant Grove High School. Authorities reported that Campbell died at the scene, while the younger teen sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital.

Investigation Updates

According to LaQuitta Wade, West Precinct officers responded to a report of the shooting at 10:47 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree, with Campbell in the driver’s seat.

The initial investigation suggests that both victims were in the vehicle, preparing to meet someone on Woodland Avenue S.W. During this encounter, an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into their vehicle. Despite Campbell attempting to escape, the vehicle crashed shortly after.

Community Impact

This incident marks the second homicide in Birmingham this year. The first occurred on January 3, when a man was shot in front of his young daughter in the Southeast Lake area.
