Peel Regional Police have announced new charges related to a 2023 gold heist at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The latest suspect, 43-year-old Arsalan Chaudhary, was apprehended upon his arrival from Dubai on Monday.
Details of the Gold Heist Investigation
Chaudhary faces multiple charges, including theft over $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained through crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense. He is currently awaiting a bail hearing.

Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah highlighted the collaboration between local and international law enforcement. He emphasized that authorities are committed to catching criminals, regardless of where they attempt to evade justice.
The Heist Overview
The incident in question occurred on April 17, 2023, when a flight from Zurich, Switzerland, arrived at Pearson Airport carrying a substantial cargo. This shipment included:
- 400 kilograms of gold, valued at over $20 million
- Approximately $2.5 million in foreign currency
The cargo was discovered missing the following day, marking the heist as the largest gold theft in Canadian history.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have made significant progress in the investigation, arresting seven additional suspects previously linked to the heist. Recent findings from an internal document obtained by CBC’s The Fifth Estate suggest that Chaudhary may have been the main planner of this elaborate crime.
Currently, a warrant has been issued for a 27-year-old Brampton resident who recently pled guilty to firearms trafficking charges in the U.S. Additionally, two more suspects from Brampton, including a former Air Canada employee, remain at large.
The investigation continues as law enforcement seeks to bring all involved to justice.
