The community is still assessing the situation, as a shortage of workers has slowed damage surveys. “We won’t know the full damage until we see a thaw,” noted Rebecca Chartrand, the federal Northern and Arctic Affairs Minister.

Pimicikamak Chief David Monias has urged evacuees to remain patient as the community cannot yet support their return. “If you come home and your home is not fixed, you’ll have no water, no heat,” he warned. The ongoing repairs are a priority for the community leaders as they work to restore normalcy.
