Florida is preparing to host the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in January 2026. This prestigious event will take place in Tallahassee on January 10, featuring over 500 athletes from around 65 countries.
Tallahassee: A Global Stage for Cross Country Athletics
The 46th edition of the World Cross Country Championships will present five exciting races, including senior and U20 events for both men and women, as well as a mixed relay. This marks the third occasion the United States has hosted this championship, following previous events in New York (1984) and Boston (1992).
Event Schedule
The races will begin early on Saturday, January 10. The detailed timetable is as follows:
- Mixed Relay: Begins at 9:45 AM local time
- Senior Women’s Race: 10:00 AM
- Senior Men’s Race: 12:20 PM
The senior men’s and women’s races are each 10 kilometers long. The U20 women’s event covers 6 kilometers, while the U20 men’s race is 8 kilometers. Each team can consist of up to six athletes, with the best four finishers scoring points. The team with the lowest total score wins. If a team does not complete with a full team, individual results will be considered for awards in senior events.
