Costco Canada Issues Refunds Amid Urgent Chocolate Recall

Costco Canada is taking action to protect its customers by issuing refunds for certain chocolate products due to health concerns. The recall affects The Harmony Bar and a Classic Box of 15 assorted filled chocolates. Both items were sold online between September 7 and December 3 of the previous year.
Details of the Chocolate Recall
This recall follows a voluntary announcement made by Peace by Chocolate, a chocolate manufacturer based in Nova Scotia. It was prompted by a recall from Tootsi Impex Inc., a supplier of one of Peace by Chocolate’s ingredients. The supplier recalled a specific lot of pistachios that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Health Risks Associated with Salmonella
Salmonella can pose serious health risks even when food appears safe. Symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Nausea
- Abdominal cramps
- Diarrhea
For certain individuals, such as the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, Salmonella can lead to more severe complications, including hospitalization.
Consumer Guidelines and Contact Information
Costco advises customers not to consume the recalled items. Peace by Chocolate has not received any reports of illnesses linked to these chocolates so far. To receive a full refund, customers can return the affected products or the entire variety pack to any Costco warehouse.
