Michigan Football’s Star RB Justice Haynes Enters Transfer Portal

Justice Haynes, the Michigan Wolverines’ standout running back for the 2025 season, has officially announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. This announcement came via social media on January 9, marking the end of his time with the Wolverines after just one season.
Justice Haynes’ Impressive Performance at Michigan
During the 2025 season, Haynes made a significant impact on the field. He rushed 121 times for a total of 857 yards, averaging an impressive 7.1 yards per carry. He also scored 10 touchdowns across just seven games.
Injury and Its Impact
Unfortunately, Haynes suffered a broken foot during Michigan’s matchup against Michigan State on October 25, which required surgery the following week. As a result of the injury, he was sidelined for the remainder of the season.
- Games Played: 7
- Total Rushing Yards: 857
- Average Yards per Carry: 7.1
- Touchdowns: 10
- Passes Caught: 13 for 50 yards
Although he appeared on the sidelines during the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl loss against Texas, he did not participate in the game.
Moving Forward: Haynes’ Statement
In his announcement, Haynes expressed gratitude toward the University of Michigan, emphasizing how the institution shaped him beyond the sport itself.
“I want to express my gratitude to the University of Michigan,” he stated. “This place has shaped me in ways that go far beyond football.”
Haynes outlined his decision to seek new opportunities after discussions with family and a period of reflection. He aims to continue his college football career elsewhere.
Future of Michigan’s Backfield
Haynes’ departure is a considerable loss for Michigan’s running game. However, with star Jordan Marshall announcing his return and the incoming talent of Savion Hiter, the top-ranked running back in the 2026 class, the Wolverines appear set to regroup.
Additionally, they recently signed Taylor Tatum from Oklahoma, who was previously the top running back in the 2024 recruiting class.
“To the Michigan fans and the Ann Arbor community, thank you for embracing me with open arms and cheering me on,” Haynes added. His legacy at Michigan, while brief, will be remembered by fans and teammates alike.
