Defensive King Ruled Out for the Season

The Sydney Kings have officially announced that their defensive star, Bul Kuol, will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season due to a knee injury. The injury was confirmed following scans that indicated an ACL tear sustained during a recent loss to Adelaide.
Impact of Kuol’s Injury on the Team
Kuol has been a significant contributor to the team this season. In 20 appearances, he has reasserted himself as one of the league’s leading defenders. His season averages include:
- Field Goal Percentage: 51.7%
- Three-Point Percentage: 44%
- Free-Throw Percentage: 84.6%
- Rebounds: 4.2 per game
- Steals: 1 per game
The team’s management expressed their support, emphasizing Kuol’s immense impact on their defensive strategy. Coach Brian Goorjian referred to the situation as “difficult” following a recent loss to South East Melbourne.
Potential Roster Changes
Following Kuol’s injury, analyst Olgun Uluc noted that the Kings have some roster flexibility available. They currently have an unused third import spot. However, there have been no confirmed discussions regarding a replacement for Kuol at this time.
If the Kings do opt to acquire a new player, that individual must be registered by January 25 to be eligible for postseason play. This player must also meet the seven-game criteria to participate in the playoffs.
Upcoming Matches
The Sydney Kings currently hold a fourth-place standing with a 13-9 record. They are set to face the New Zealand Breakers this Friday at 5:30 PM AEDT, which will be broadcast live on ESPN.
