M1 Reopens in Leicestershire Following Cattle Truck Crash and Car Fire

Motorists in Leicestershire experienced significant delays on the M1 following two incidents: an overturned cattle truck and a car fire.

M1 Reopens After Major Incidents

In the early hours of Thursday, a trailer carrying cattle overturned, prompting National Highways to close both directions of the M1 between junction 23 at Loughborough and junction 23A at East Midlands Airport. This incident significantly impacted traffic flow, leading to congestion in the area.

Additional Incident: Car Fire

Meanwhile, a separate car fire occurred on the southbound side of the M1. This led to a closure between junction 21 at Leicester and junction 20 at Lutterworth, further complicating the travel situation for motorists.

Current Situation

As of now, both sections of the M1 have reopened. However, delays persist as traffic begins to normalize. Motorists are advised to remain cautious and expect slow traffic in the affected areas.

  • Accident 1: Overturned cattle truck
  • Location: M1, between junction 23 and 23A
  • Time: Early Thursday morning
  • Accident 2: Car fire
  • Location: M1, between junction 21 and 20

While the road is now open, recovery efforts from both incidents may still cause delays. Motorists are encouraged to stay updated on traffic conditions as they travel through this region.
