Calgary’s Lia Cho, 13, Sets New Canadian Junior Figure Skating Record

Lia Cho, a 13-year-old figure skating talent from Calgary, has achieved a remarkable feat. During the 2026 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, she set a new Canadian junior women’s record with a total score of 199.60 points. This accomplishment surpassed her previous record of 188.79 points, which she set at the nationals in Laval, Quebec, the previous year.

Record-Breaking Performance

Cho’s impressive score was a surprise to her, prompting her to seek confirmation from her coach. “I was just so surprised,” she remarked, reflecting on her score. “That was like the highest score I’ve ever gotten.” Her performance included landing seven triple jumps, which demonstrated her technical excellence.

Competition Overview

The championships took place at the Centre Slush Puppie, where Cho triumphed over fellow competitors. Victoria Barakhtina secured the silver medal with a score of 171.93 points, while Quinn Startek claimed bronze with 157.93 points.

Future Prospects

Cho trains at The Glencoe Club under the guidance of coach Scott Davis. Looking ahead, she will become eligible to compete in the world junior championships in 2027.
