Regenda: Slovakia Excited for Olympics, Unfazed by Chernyshov’s Success

Pavol Regenda is making waves in the NHL this season, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess with the San Jose Sharks. In just four games this season, he has netted five goals, including a memorable hat trick against the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 3, 2026.

Regenda’s Journey in the NHL

Standing at 6-foot-4, Regenda’s physical presence on the ice has not gone unnoticed. He transitioned from the Barracuda to the Sharks, moving from the third line to potentially a second-line role for their upcoming game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

As he finds success in the NHL, Regenda’s thoughts are also turning to international competition. He’s hopeful to represent Slovakia in the upcoming Olympic Games, having played a key role in Slovakia’s first-ever medal at the Olympics in 2022.

Regenda expressed pride in the unity hockey brings to Slovakia. “When the Olympics or World Championships happen, the entire nation stops. Everyone is focused on hockey,” he laughed, acknowledging the enthusiastic armchair coaches that emerge during these events.

As Slovakia announces its Olympic roster on January 8, fans are eager to see if Regenda will be among those chosen to compete once again on an international stage. The excitement surrounding this possibility reflects the nation’s deep love for hockey and its rising talent.
