Sharks Trade for Goalie Brossoit in Multi-Player Deal with Blackhawks

The San Jose Sharks made a significant move on January 8, 2026, by acquiring goaltender Laurent Brossoit from the Chicago Blackhawks. This multi-player trade also involves defenseman Nolan Allan and a future draft selection.
Details of the Trade
The Sharks are receiving Brossoit, Allan, and a 2028 seventh-round pick. In return, the Blackhawks will get a fourth-round pick in the same draft, along with the contract of defenseman Ryan Ellis and player Jake Furlong.
Brossoit’s Recovery Journey
Brossoit, who underwent hip surgery in the offseason, was assigned to the AHL on December 2 for conditioning. He missed the entire 2024-25 season due to right knee surgery and logged six games with the Rockford IceHogs during his recovery. In that span, he recorded a 3-3-0 record, a .901 save percentage, and a 3.38 goals-against average.
Contract and Career Highlights
Before the trade, Brossoit signed a two-year, $6.6 million contract with the Blackhawks on July 1, 2024, but did not play in any games with the team. Originally drafted as a sixth-round pick (164th overall) by the Calgary Flames in 2011, he has played 140 NHL games with teams such as the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, and Vegas Golden Knights. Notably, Brossoit won a Stanley Cup championship with the Golden Knights in 2023.
This strategic acquisition by the Sharks may bolster their goaltending options as they navigate the remainder of the season.
