Merseyrail Launches New Timetable Today with Key Service Changes

Today marks the launch of Merseyrail’s new timetable, which includes significant service changes across various lines. Passengers in Merseyside and surrounding areas are advised to review the updates to avoid missing their trains.

Merseyrail Timetable Changes Effective Today

As of Monday, January 5, the autumn timetable has been discontinued. Merseyrail will revert to its standard schedule for the Southport, Chester, and Ellesmere Port lines. This alteration is particularly important for commuters returning to work after the holidays.

Key Changes in Train Services

  • Southport Line: Train departures from Southport to Liverpool will shift by three minutes. New timings include:
    • 8:21 AM
    • 8:36 AM
    • 8:51 AM
  • Ellesmere Port Line: Commuter services will now depart at:
    • 8:19 AM
    • 8:42 AM
  • Chester Line: Services will now run at:
    • 7:00 AM
    • 31 minutes past the hour
    • 45 minutes past the hour

Important Notes for Capenhurst Passengers

If you frequently travel from Capenhurst Station, be aware that the service frequency has changed. The trains will now operate every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. New departure times will be as follows:

  • 24 minutes past the hour
  • 54 minutes past the hour

Passenger Advisory

Merseyrail encourages all passengers to consult the journey planner available on their website. The adjustment in timetables also stems from seasonal factors, specifically leaf fall on the tracks, which necessitated revised scheduling during the autumn months.

As commuters head back to work, ensuring familiarity with the new train times is crucial for a smooth journey on Merseyrail services.
