The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway experienced a significant malfunction on Friday evening, causing extensive delays for hundreds of visitors. The incident occurred around 8 p.m., stranding many at an altitude of approximately 7,500 feet.

Witnesses reported that the situation became concerning as some individuals began to feel ill due to the high elevation. Efforts to rescue the stranded passengers began after midnight, with tramway crews working diligently to transport them down.

Nima Navidi, one of the passengers, described the descent. He noted that while the ascent typically takes about ten minutes, the return trip was slowed by ongoing equipment issues. The descent took roughly 25 to 30 minutes.
Response and Support for Passengers
During the ordeal, passengers were provided with complimentary food, drinks, and blankets. Activities, such as coloring books for children, were also made available to ease the situation.
Status of Tramway Operations
The tramway did not operate on Saturday following the incident but resumed regular service on Sunday. The management indicated that further assessments would be conducted to prevent future disruptions.
