Katie Boulter Enlists Former Sharapova Coach Michael Joyce

Katie Boulter has initiated a new chapter in her tennis career by hiring Michael Joyce, the former coach of tennis star Maria Sharapova. This strategic move follows Boulter’s recent split from her long-time coach, Biljana Veselinovic, after a three-year partnership that led to three WTA titles.

Boulter’s Current Standing

At 29 years old, Boulter is currently positioned as the British number four. Unfortunately, she has recently seen her ranking drop out of the world’s top 100. Since Wimbledon, her performance has been challenging, with only three wins on the tour level.

Injuries and Setbacks

  • Boulter suffered an abductor tear during her last event in Hong Kong last year.
  • This injury has hindered her chances of a main draw spot at the Australian Open.
  • She is currently the third alternate for the tournament.

Without sufficient withdrawals from other players, Boulter will need to compete successfully in qualifying rounds at Melbourne Park to secure her place.

Goals for the Future

In a November interview with BBC Sport, Boulter expressed her ambitions moving forward. She emphasized the importance of selecting a coach who possesses the experience to help her reach the highest levels of the sport.

Boulter has previously achieved a ranking as high as 23 and is determined to return there. She believes her level of play remains intact, stating that consistency is what she needs to improve.

Aspirations

  • Boulter’s ultimate goal is to break into the top 20 rankings.
  • She aims to move beyond her past rankings of 30, 40, and 50.

On her social media, she expressed optimism about 2026, calling it “the best year of her life” as she prepares for her upcoming marriage to Australia’s world number seven, Alex de Minaur. Concluding the past year, she noted, “Adios 2025. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”
