Extreme Icing Shuts Vantage Highway Amid Freezing Rain and Fog

A significant section of Vantage Highway in Kittitas County has been closed due to hazardous winter weather conditions. The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office reported that the highway was shut down just before 11 p.m. on Thursday, following incidents of extreme icing caused by freezing rain and dense fog.

The closure affects the stretch of Vantage Highway from Parke Creek Road, located east of Kittitas, to the western edge of Vantage. This area has been severely impacted by icy conditions, making it unsafe for travel.
Incidents and Safety Concerns
Insp. Christopher Whitsett informed KPQ News that, although he could not confirm any accidents involving civilians prior to the closure, there were notable incidents on the road. A tow truck attempting to assist a vehicle that had lost control skidded on the slick surface. Additionally, a sanding truck from the Kittitas County Public Works Department also spun out while trying to improve road traction.
