Off-Duty ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Gunman; LAPD Launches Investigation

A confrontation on New Year’s Eve at an apartment complex in Northridge, California, has resulted in the death of a gunman and initiated an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). An off-duty agent from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was involved in this incident while responding to an active shooter situation.

On December 31, an off-duty ICE officer was confronted with a dangerous situation at the Valley Pointe Apartments. Reports indicate that the gunman was firing an assault rifle into the air around 11:37 p.m. When the officer intervened, he exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
