Celtic Accelerates Julian Araujo Transfer for Rangers Debut

Celtic is making significant progress in securing Julian Araujo as one of their first signings for the upcoming 2026 season. The club aims to have Araujo ready for the upcoming clash against Rangers on January 3. Current manager Wilfried Nancy has prioritized the acquisition of the Mexican right-back, viewing him as essential for strengthening the squad.
Celtic’s Pursuit of Julian Araujo
Nancy’s interest in Araujo stems from his previous experience with the player during his tenure in Major League Soccer. Araujo, who has represented the USA at youth levels, has played professionally for clubs such as LA Galaxy, Barcelona, and Las Palmas. Recently, he joined AFC Bournemouth on loan and is now poised for a potential move to Celtic.
Loan Negotiations with AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth appears willing to let Araujo seek more playing time, particularly with the World Cup approaching. However, the agreement depends on satisfactory financial terms. The negotiations are crucial as Celtic aims to turn around their current form, having faced five defeats in seven matches under Nancy’s management.
Additional Transfer Targets
In addition to Araujo, Celtic is actively pursuing other players to bolster their squad in January. The team’s initial transfer requirements include:
- Right-back
- Right-sided centre-back
- Right winger
- Centre forward
Interest in Diego Rossi and Jocelin Ta Bi
Celtic has also shown interest in Columbus Crew striker Diego Rossi. Additionally, they are targeting Ivory Coast winger Jocelin Ta Bi, currently on loan with Hapoel Petah Tikva. However, competition arises from Turkish side Trabzonspor, who have submitted a £2.5 million offer for Ta Bi.
Ta Bi is currently dealing with an ankle injury, and Celtic is awaiting medical reports to assess his condition. There are concerns they may lose out on signing him to Trabzonspor, who are also likely to negotiate compensation with his loan club, Maccabi Netanya.
