Officer Shoots Knife-Wielding Man in Strawberry Mansion, Philadelphia Police Report

A man was shot during a police confrontation in Strawberry Mansion, Philadelphia, early Wednesday morning. The incident took place just before 3 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Bailey Street.

Officers responded to a distress call reporting a “person screaming.” Upon their arrival, they overheard an argument and a woman’s voice yelling from inside a residence. After knocking on the door and receiving no initial response, a child opened it, granting the officers access.
Confrontation with the Suspect
Inside the home, officers encountered a 31-year-old man armed with a knife. He was looming over a 30-year-old woman lying on the floor. The man ignored repeated commands from the officers to drop the weapon. Instead, he jumped over a sofa and moved toward them while still brandishing the knife.

In response to the perceived threat, an officer discharged his firearm, striking the man in the chest. The injured suspect was swiftly transported to Temple University Hospital for surgery, where he remains in critical condition.
