Bali Introduces Temporary Traffic Plan to Prevent New Year Travel Chaos

Bali is preparing for significant traffic congestion during the upcoming New Year celebrations. Locals and authorities anticipate severe delays and heavy traffic, especially in popular tourist areas.
Bali’s Temporary Traffic Plan for New Year Traffic Management
In response to the expected influx of visitors, the Bali Police have introduced a temporary traffic management plan to alleviate congestion. They are focusing on hotspots such as Kuta Beach, Ngurah Rai Airport, and the GWK Cultural Park.
Key Traffic Areas and Diversions
Traffic bottlenecks are predicted in the following locations:
- Kuta
- Canggu
- Uluwatu
- Seminyak
- Jimbaran
- Sanur
- Ubud
Denpasar Police Traffic Chief, Commissioner Yusuf Dwi Admodjo, outlined specific diversions for those traveling to Kuta Beach:
- Traffic from Jalan Kartika Plaza towards Kuta Beach will be redirected to Jalan Tegall Wangi.
- Vehicles from Patih Jelantik-Dewi Sri Intersection will be directed north on Jalan Dewi Sri and east on Jalan Raya Kuta.
Parking Solutions
To further address the situation, authorities have identified seven parking areas:
- Gelora Tri Sakti
- Jalan Patih Jelantik – Sriwijaya
- Central Parking Kuta
- Beach Walk Mall
- Bali Galeria Mall
- Centro Mall
- Waterbom
- Kuta Traditional Village Parking
Commissioner Admodjo encourages visitors to park at the Central Parking area and walk to Kuta Beach to avoid confusion and additional delays.
Traffic Management across Bali
Bali Traffic Police are adjusting traffic flow throughout the region based on real-time vehicle volume. This dynamic approach aims to manage congestion effectively as tourists arrive.
In Canggu and Kerobokan, traffic management will focus on a one-way route on Jalan Mertanadi, from Sunset Road to Jalan Tangkuban Perahu. Updates indicate that earlier attempts at a two-way route caused further complications due to congested intersections.
Recommendations for Travelers
Tourists planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Bali are advised to anticipate delays and prepare for road closures. Early arrivals at event venues are encouraged, especially for those traveling to Ngurah Rai Airport. Allow extra time for travel, particularly along the Mandara Toll Road.
As Bali gears up for a busy holiday season, visitors should stay informed about the latest traffic updates and plan their journeys accordingly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
