Londoners Advised to Avoid Certain Areas on New Year’s Eve 2025

As New Year’s Eve approaches in 2025, Londoners are being advised to avoid certain areas due to safety concerns. The Metropolitan Police are preparing for a busy celebration, collaborating with emergency services to ensure a secure environment for both residents and visitors. In light of this, several regions in the city will be restricted.

Areas to Avoid on New Year’s Eve 2025

If you plan on celebrating in London, be aware that large crowds will limit access to many central locations. Here are the major areas that will be off-limits:

  • Big Ben
  • London Eye
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Victoria Embankment
  • Tower Bridge
  • London Bridge
  • Waterloo Bridge
  • Southwark Bridge

Tickets have sold out for the Mayor of London’s official fireworks event. Thus, access to these iconic landmarks will be restricted. The public is encouraged to stay away from areas such as the bridges, which might not provide a clear view of the fireworks.

Safety Measures for Celebrants

Paul Martinelli, chair of the City Bridge Foundation, has urged people to reconsider gathering on the bridges. He noted that Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and Southwark Bridge offer poor perspectives of the fireworks, and significant crowding could pose risks. The Millennium Bridge will also be closed, while Blackfriars Bridge will not be open to non-ticket holders.

Martinelli advises that viewers could enjoy a better experience by watching the fireworks on BBC coverage from the comfort of their homes or local bars and restaurants.

Primrose Hill Closure

In 2024, over 30,000 people gathered at Primrose Hill to watch the New Year’s fireworks. However, in 2025, this park will be closed. Commander Nick John of the Metropolitan Police has echoed the Royal Parks’ warning against attempting to enter Primrose Hill. He emphasized making alternative arrangements for viewing the fireworks.

As you prepare for your New Year’s Eve plans, consider checking public transport options and look for last-minute bookings to popular events. London offers numerous entertaining parties to enjoy the countdown to 2026.
