Burnham-On-Sea Cinema Owner to Launch Fourth Somerset Theater in 2026

Pat Scott, owner of the Ritz Cinema in Burnham-On-Sea, is set to expand his cinema chain. His upcoming project will be the fourth cinema location in Somerset, expected to open in 2026. This initiative reflects Scott’s commitment to providing accessible entertainment in smaller towns.
New Somerset Theater: A Vision for Wincanton
Scott operates S&B Cinemas, which already includes successful theaters in Frome and Minehead. The latest venture involves transforming a historic Art Deco cinema building located in Wincanton into a modern, three-screen venue.
Historical Significance
The original Plaza Cinema in Wincanton opened its doors in 1934 but underwent various changes over the decades. Key historical points include:
- Converted to a bingo hall in 1970.
- Returned to film screenings in 1989 before closing in 1992.
- Taken over by Wincanton Community Church in 1999.
- Vacant since 2014.
Features of the New Venue
Pat Scott’s new cinema will screen the latest Hollywood films, catering to a diverse audience. His philosophy emphasizes creating small, inviting theaters with family-friendly amenities at affordable prices.
Opening Timeline
Plans are in place for a Spring 2026 opening. Scott aims to have two screens operational by the first week of February, with the third screen following about three months later.
Scott expressed gratitude to patrons for their ongoing support and excitement about the positive impact this new venue will have on the local community.
