Space Launch Delta 30 Seeks Input for SLC-14 Development at Vandenberg Base

Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD 30) at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) has initiated a Request for Information (RFI). This effort aims to engage United States Launch Service Providers (LSPs) in the development of advanced launch capabilities.

Focus on SLC-14 Development

The RFI specifically targets enhancements at Space Launch Complex-14 (SLC-14). Located at the southernmost point of VSFB, SLC-14 is ripe for upgrades to support heavy and super-heavy vertical space launch vehicles.

Invitation for Collaboration

SLD 30 invites LSPs interested in establishing a real property use agreement (lease) at SLC-14. This agreement will enable them to finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain the necessary space launch infrastructure.

  • Key Goals: Enhance military satellite launches, improve resilience, and expedite satellite constellation reconstitution.
  • Responsibilities: Selected respondents will develop the needed infrastructure for effective launch capabilities.

Importance of Vandenberg Space Force Base

VSFB stands as a crucial site for space access and advanced testing. The base contributes significantly to national security by facilitating various essential missions, including:

  • Nuclear deterrence
  • Homeland defense
  • Global command and control of space assets
  • Orbital tracking
  • Training future space Guardians and nuclear Airmen

For more details regarding the RFI or SLD 30, interested parties can contact the SLD 30 Public Affairs office at (805) 606-3595 or via email. This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening the United States’ capabilities in space transportation and military readiness.
