Honduran Woman Runs Red Light, Hits Government Vehicle in Slidell

A traffic incident in Slidell, Louisiana, has led to the arrest of a Honduran woman unlawfully present in the United States. The accident occurred when 43-year-old Reyna Funez failed to stop at a red light and collided with a government vehicle.

Details of the Incident

The collision involved Funez driving a 2006 Acura MDX. She was stopped at a red light at the off-ramp of Interstate 12. Instead of waiting for the light to change, she turned right on red without yielding to oncoming traffic.

Collision with Government Vehicle

The vehicle that Funez struck was a 2021 Ford Expedition, which was being operated by federal agents involved in “Operation Catahoula Crunch.” Despite attempts by the other driver to avoid the accident, the collision occurred, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Investigation Findings

Slidell police conducted an investigation after the crash. Their findings revealed that Funez was at fault due to a red-light violation and failure to yield. Additionally, she did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Legal Consequences

After determining her illegal status in the U.S., U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took Funez into custody. The incident highlights continuing concerns over traffic safety and immigration enforcement in Louisiana.
